Prerequisite: Art I or department recommendation This is a survey course for advanced art students. Students will work a variety of media including: drawing, painting, ceramics, layout and design, printmaking, sculpture, and art history. Techniques and skills will be emphasized through self-expression and aesthetics. (Purchase of additional materials may be required)

Prerequisite: None Experienced art students will explore media used to create 3-dimensional art forms. Students will create functional forms in ceramics (pottery) as well as decorative forms in sculpture (carving, construction, casting, or modeling). Emphasis will be placed on construction techniques and craftsmanship as well as creative expression.

82950 Printmaking and Design (Semester; 1/2 unit) |

Prerequisite: Junior or Senior standing; Sophomores with teacher recommendation and/or one year of BHS Art credit An art course that offers a combination of technological design skills and practical art making. Course content will focus on the preparation of artwork (digitally and manually) for the production of silkscreen printing and the creation of functional products such as posters, stickers, T-shirts and other commercial products created through the screen-printing process. (Purchase of specialized materials will be necessary)

Prerequisite: Art II Students will develop individual skills with many drawing media, such as pencil, crayon, charcoal, pastels, ink, and others. Attention will be given to drawing from observation, the design and fundamentals of composition, as well as development of personal style in drawing. (Purchase of specialized materials will be necessary)

Prerequisite: Art II Students will develop individual skills with many painting media including watercolor, acrylic, tempera, and collage materials. They will also study art history and the development of painting styles. (Purchase of specialized materials necessary)

82981-82982 Senior Studio (Year; 1 unit) |

Prerequisite: Departmental recommendation and four semesters of BHS Art credit Through teacher supervision, eligible students will develop responsibility for their own process of creative development and individual initiative in a studio environment. While exploring more advanced concepts of visual organization and expression, studio students will create and compile a portfolio of their own artwork. The senior studio helps prepare the student for an art related career as well as for personal artistic growth and reflection. (Purchase of specialized materials will be necessary.)

82991-82992 AP Studio Art (Year 1 unit) |

Prerequisite: Four semesters of art, including two advanced art classes and application through the art department AP students will work independently to create a portfolio of work that is submitted to the AP College Board for evaluation at the end of the school year. In the first semester the course will be organized around a sequence of class assignments. The second semester is devoted to individual concentration of a project, the completion of earlier work and enough new work to meet all portfolio requirements. Students will make choices of medium, technique, style, form, subject and content in their artwork in consultation with the teacher. The student will produce either a General Portfolio or a Drawing concentration portfolio. Students enrolled in this course will need to allow extra time in their schedules for work outside of the classroom. At several points in the course, portfolios of cumulative work are due. Students failing to meet minimum expectations at these points may be transferred to the Senior Studio course, losing AP status and G.P.A. weighting. This course follows the College Board Advanced Placement Syllabus and students will submit a slide portfolio for review by the Board. (Students may incur additional costs.)
