Mr. Chernick is currently in his fourth year with the Bloomington High School Music Department.  Prior to his appointment in Bloomington, he served as Director of Bands at Killingly High School in Danielson, Connecticut.  Originally from the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, Mr. Chernick earned his Bachelors of Music Education from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.  His undergraduate years included performance as the Drum Major of the University of Illinois Marching Illini.  Mr. Chernick then went on to the University of Iowa, where he was an instructor in the School of Music’s Department of Bands.  For two years he served as director of the Iowa Pep Band, assistant director of the Hawkeye Marching Band and assistant conductor of the New Horizons Band for Senior Citizens.  He completed his Master of Arts in Music Education in Band Conducting in May, 2003, and was inducted into the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honors society.  His concert, marching and jazz ensembles have earned high honors and superior ratings at festivals throughout the Midwest, New England and Canada.  Mr. Chernick resides in Bloomington with his wife, Renee.
