DANVILLE
-- A week after being blanked by Intercity football
rival Normal Community, No. 9 ranked Bloomington High
School responded with a 37-17 Big 12 Conference win over
Danville Friday.
BHS moved to 2-1 overall and in
the Big 12. Danville also is 2-1 and 2-1.
The
Purple Raiders’ defense was solid, forcing four straight
turnovers early in the first half that all led to BHS
scores.
The first Danville turnover came by way
of a fumble on the team’s second drive. Bloomington’s
Joey Tyson recovered, and on the next play Cole Lamberti
found the end zone on a 12-yard touchdown
run.
“(Turnovers) are a huge part of the game,”
BHS coach Rigo Schmelzer said. “The defense tries to get
them on every possession. We want to get our offense
good field position so that we can score.”
Will
Bishop caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Stephen Esch
on the Raiders’ next drive for a 14-0
cushion.
BHS led 28-3 at the half on a 22-yard
scoring pass from Esch to David Cook and Darian Davis’
52-yard TD run.
Adam Peden booted a 31-yard field
goal for the Raiders in the third quarter. The final BHS
touchdown came on a 19-yard Erik Wilson run.
