Game capsules for Bloomington, Central Catholic, Normal Community, Normal West and University High

Bloomington vs. Danville

Time: 7 p.m.

Place: Danville High School

Records: BHS 1-1, 1-1 in Big 12 Conference; Danville 2-0, 2-0 in Big 12

Radio: WJBC-AM (1230), periodic reports

FYI: Bloomington, ranked No. 9 in Class 6A, seeks to rebound from last week's 23-0 loss to top-ranked Normal Community. Danville lost its opener 35-34 to Urbana, but was awarded a forfeit win because Urbana used an ineligible player. The Vikings then edged Mattoon, 32-28. Quarterback Cody Zeigler threw for 280 yards and two TDs, Marcus Williams and Michael Duckworth both topped 100 yards receiving and Reggie Cloyd ran for 123 yards.

Quoting: "I think their offense is going to challenge us. I'd like to think their defense is going to open some things up for us. We're going to stay with the things we've been doing before we try to reinvent the wheel. What we want to do is there, but we made too many mistakes (last week). We played a good team and they made us look bad. We have to respond to that." - BHS coach Rigo Schmelzer.

Urbana vs. Normal Community

Time: 7 p.m.

Place: Normal Community High School

Records: Urbana 0-2, 0-2 in Big 12 Conference; NCHS 2-0, 2-0 in Big 12

Radio: WJBC-AM (1230), periodic reports

FYI: NCHS, rated No. 1 in Class 6A, meets an Urbana team hungry for a win. The Tigers edged Danville in the opener but had to forfeit for using an ineligible player. They lost 21-18 to Champaign Central last week. Antonio Jones rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown, but will go against an NCHS defense which has not allowed a point. Ironmen senior linebacker Sam Smith and junior receiver/defensive back Alex Buck are questionable with knee injuries.

Quoting: "Urbana is fast and they're able to sustain drives this year and put points on the board. They have outstanding talent at the skill positions, so our players will be tested. From week one to week two, our offensive line made huge strides. Juan (Anthony) Guevara and Derek Logue had outstanding games." - NCHS coach Hud Venerable.

Normal West vs. Champaign Central

Time: 8 p.m.

Place: University of Illinois' Memorial Stadium

Records: Normal West 1-1, 1-1 in Big 12 Conference; Champaign Central 1-1, 1-1 in Big 12

Radio: WJBC-AM (1230), periodic reports

FYI: West is coming off a 49-9 win over Decatur Eisenhower. The Wildcats will be tested by Champaign Central running back Corey Leman, who ran for 118 yards and two TDs last week against Urbana. Receiver Drew Sharick also is a threat, catching seven passes for 112 yards and a score a week ago. West receiver Erich Bushong is questionable because of a shoulder injury.

Quoting: "We're excited about (playing at Memorial Stadium). We want the kids to experience that. Champaign Central spreads you out and is constantly putting you in positions you don't want to be in. This is a big game for us. We responded the right way last week after a tough game against Centennial. Now, it's test No. 2." - West coach Darren Hess.

Central Catholic vs. Rantoul

Time: 7:45 p.m.

Place: Rantoul High School

Records: Central Catholic 2-0, 2-0 in Corn Belt Conference; Rantoul 1-1, 1-1 in Corn Belt

Radio: WJBC-AM (1230), periodic reports

FYI: Central Catholic, ranked No. 5 in Class 4A, looks to build on the momentum of last week's 36-0 win over University High. The defense allowed one first down and the offense was led by junior Ryan Waldron's 116 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Rantoul edged Olympia 15-13 last week behind Greg Foust's 170 yards rushing and one TD. Rantoul edged the Saints 6-0 last year.

Quoting: "We've watched that film (from last year) and it brings back bad memories. We're hoping not to repeat that. We just have to play good, solid football. They have a little bit of speed, so we have to try to keep them inside of us. We want to stop them from running the ball and force them to throw it." - Central Catholic coach Bobby Moews.

University High vs. Rochester

Time: 7:45 p.m.

Place: Rochester High School

Records: U High 1-1, 1-1 in Corn Belt Conference; Rochester 2-0, 2-0 in Corn Belt

Radio: WJBC-AM (1230), periodic reports

FYI: U High seeks to get back on the winning track after a 36-0 loss to Central Catholic. The Pioneers could be without senior quarterback Tyler Cook, who suffered a mild concussion against the Saints. If Cook cannot play, sophomore Jake Todino will start in his place. Rochester has posted easy wins over Rantoul (41-6) and Eureka (41-13).

Quoting: "They have a lot of quickness offensively. They spread the field well and distribute the ball to a lot of receivers. The biggest challenge for us is we have to contain their speed and gang tackle and keep everything in front of us. We just need to block and tackle better. We missed a lot of blocks last week and that's been one of the points of emphasis this week." - U High coach Kurt Olson.
