Prerequisite: None
This course
includes one semester of physical education and one semester of health
education. In physical education, the student is introduced to a
variety of activities in individual and team sports. The activities
include soccer skills, track and field, fitness, introduction to weight
training, basketball, volleyball, and swimming. In health education,
the student studies such topics as consumer health, mental health,
diseases, survival and safety, substance use and abuse, human growth and
development, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
* NOTE:
State law requires that students must pass eight semester courses in the
year prior to taking drivers education. In addition, each student must
pass Health and PE 9 to be eligible for the course. As a result,
students not passing eight courses in their Freshman year will not be
able to take either the classroom or behind the wheel Drivers Education
instruction until the summer following their second year, and then only
if they passed eight courses in their second year.
